This conference will focus on the challenges and way ahead for dealing with human factors issues associated with the development and operational employment of complex systems. Modern systems in recent years have provided end users with incredible capability. However, that capability has also introduced a level of complexity that is not fully understood or appreciated by most operators. The impact of this complexity is especially acute when the human operator needs to effectively interface with these systems. Recent experience, be it on the ground or in the air, has shown that a poorly designed system from a human performance engineering perspective can have consequences that can range from poorly executed missions to fatalities. This conference will examine these issues and consequences to give attendees a better understanding of the issues and to interact with experts in the field of human factors.
